I took my car in to Precision Tune in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, because of brake noise.

I was told the car needed new pads and rotors (I am now skeptical of this after reading other complaints) and that the bill would be about 460 dollars. Not really knowing anything about what the cost should be to repair the car, and without receiving a written estimate (which they must give in the state of FL) I allowed the repairs. After doing my own research the next day into the cost of standard brake pads and rotors for my car, I realized that they had charged roughly 500% markup on parts. I was charged 90 dollars (as opposed to 20 retail) for brake pads, and 225 (as opposed to 50 retail) for a set of rotors.

When I asked for an explanation from the manager, I was told this was because they only use "premium" parts and that the parts come with a lifetime warranty, but he refused to tell me what kind of parts he used, and there was never a mention of any warranty until after I had contacted the manager, nor were we given a choice when we consented to the work. When I called their corporate office, I was told that the matter would have to be handled by the owner, who has yet to call me back. I've filed a complaint with the FL Department of Consumer Services and plan to take the car to a different shop to have the work inspected. Stay away from these guys...

at the worst, they're liars and frauds; at the best, they take advantage of their customers.

Same happened to my granddaughter in Texas. They charged $700 for a simple brake job!

Took advantage of a young girl who didn't know. Then they forgot to tighten one wheel and she could've had a wreck!!

Oh my goodness I had my brakes done at the precision tune in mcdonough,ga on Jonesboro road. Took car in because the brakes needed to be done.

Left the store brakes were squeaking, my son took the car back and they said they didnt hear a noise. My son left went back next day same comment from them. I called corporate office, and Precision tune called back. I took the car again and miracuously they heard the noise.

A month later I drove to savannah and my car wouldn't stop. When I veered into the curb and a bystander took my tire off, he noticed my brakes were loose and the bolt to hold brakes and rotors were out. I had to get car towed. The precision tune in savannah fixed it but a week later the brakes are scrubbing again.

The owner offered me my money back or repair to car, no money for my hotel or my sanity.

They are crazy I could have died. Worse place ever

I wish I had read all these reviews sooner.

hi jason. this incident is from several years ago. however, i'm curious what, exactly, you mean by "people like me"?

for the record - after calling other shops in the area (which is what i should have done in the first place, lesson learned) their estimates were invariably about half of what precision tune charged. i also asked what their markup percentage was on parts, and all but one were candid about it and gave me values that ranged between 60 and 200%. i'm no math major, but that's a far cry from 500.

my beef with this shop was not that that they charged a markup, which i absolutely understand and have no problem with; it was that the markup was unreasonably high and they were were rude and indifferent when i questioned it. their dealings with me, on both a managerial and corporate level, also left me feeling taken advantage of and not valued as a customer. now... i'm not a business major either, but i'm pretty sure those are things that most businesses try to avoid. especially ones that might appreciate repeat customers.

i think it's also worth noting that among the several repair shops i've been to for various reasons in the years since this incident, none of them have charged the outrageous markup that precision tune did or treated me the way precision tune did. i have moved a few times in the meantime, and in every area i've been, the mechanics i've seen have been nothing but friendly, forthcoming and reasonable.

and also, by the way... because of this incident, i made the decision to purchase brake pads and rotors myself and had someone show me how to replace them myself on my other car a couple years ago. it turned out just fine.

what the manager should have said was we are a shop that makes money on parts and labor. of course if u go buy them urself they are cheaper.

every shop and retail business functions this way. the apple u bought at the store is marked up compared if u went to an apple farm and picked it. but in choosing a company to do ur work u are backed up by a nation wide warranty, job done right (hopefully) by a professional and peace of mind u are taking care of. I also own an automotive shop.

this is how it works. if prices arent marked up then we cant pay for employees, building rent, electricity, the warranty we provide. once again this is business.

if u cant handle this fact then buy ur own parts and do it urself and let everyone know how that turns out. maybe they should have have explained it better and im sure they werent trying to rip u off, but people like u will probably never get that.

Oh don't get me started on Precision Tune!! I had a 1995 Camry that overheated.

I took it to Precision Tune. They said it was the head gasket and that this repair would stop the overheating. Well, at the end of the repair, they realized the heads were warped and gave me the "choice" of having a good used engine installed (which would have cost me $400 More than the head gasket) OR>>>just have them put the parts back together again, pay the $1000 and be on my way. I Balked at having to pay 1000 bucks and the car being NOT repaired after that!

I didn't Have $1300 to pay them for a used engine...Period! I STRONGLY FEEL this was a bait and switch sort of thing, but when I contacted corporate headquarters, of Course they sided with the Precision Tune shop, NOT ME!! I have Since sold the car, but I will NEVER EVER take my car to them again. They Promised me the head gasket would solve the problem and then when it wouldn't, they STILL wanted the 1000 bucks!

I am writing this as a warning to people to Not Take Their Car to this Place. The Precision Tune I am referring to is in Mableton, GA.

I took my car into precision tune in Catonsville MD on 3-140**** because the check engine light was on.I suspected a loose gas cap because my daughther had just filled the car up and she has only been driving for a couple of months. I was also concerned because this happened before and reset itself and there is extended warranty on the transmission because of defect that also causes the light to come on.

I went for an OBD test 59.90 and was told there was error code 420 which thet said meant a bad catalytic converter. They said they had a good deal for me as Honda charges 800 dollars for the converter and their price was 513 dollars plus 170 dollars in labor.I was also told I needed a air filter even thogh mine is just 3 months old and it is one of those 20K filters.I was also told I need an oil change and my front tires are bad and theses are only one year old. By the way my car is a 2001 and has 46K miles and the tires have only 7k on them.Tires looked good to me. I asked them why the other parts and they said they check these items plus the brakes.

I said I would have to come back later as I was short on funds. PepBoys had the converter which was a directed replacement for 220 dollars and 70 dollars to install. While I was leaving and the mechanic was backing up you could heear the rear brakes chirp like a bird.I had the brakes replaced at pepboys and they were down to the wear indicators and the rotor was just 15 thousands above specs before surfacing.I had the rotors replaced as 72 dollars is a good price. Anyway the light has reset itself and it passed emmisiions.

I just do not believe the precision tune. What i think is that they saw easy money
